I have been building houses for 30 years and we never had to bother with this seismic stuff before. Why now?

In the case of earthquakes, no failures of buildings in the last 30 years have occurred but it is understood that the “big one” has not yet hit the West Coast of Canada. With wisdom gained from studying earthquakes all over the world, we now have a better understanding of how to build a structure to resist an earthquake.
